Why did we name our startup Clueso? And how did we design the logo?
Last year, and I decided to start a new company – an AI-powered tool that would generate user guides for any SaaS app from rough screen recordings.
For some reason, the first name that came to our minds for our startup was GigaUser. GigaUser would be the ultimate user of any SaaS product. It would turn all other users from regular users to power users, and eventually to giga-users.
So, we sent out cold emails to pitch GigaUser to prospective customers. Not many responded, but one did:
“What’s GigaUser? That sounds like an evil robot. Will it hack my app?”
Needless to say, we were stunned. We decided to send the name to some friends to get their thoughts.
One sent back a very disturbing giga-chad meme and asked:
“Does this have anything to do with GigaUser?”
We learnt two lessons that day.
1. The name GigaUser sucks
2.Get your friends' approval before pitching to customers
So we gathered to brainstorm a more friendly name. The concept of a "detective" theme resonated with us the most. It embodied the idea of helping users uncover answers to their questions as they use any app. (super artistic, don’t you think? )
Unanimously, our favourite detective was Jacques Clouseau from the Pink Panther series. His name was an ideal match too. With a little wordplay, we were also able to incorporate the word “Clue” in. Thus, Clueso was born, designed to offer users insightful "clues" on mastering any SaaS product.
Our logo naturally became a more modern, minimalistic rendition of the character from the series.
